Smile in a Day

Smile in a Day replaces a whole arch of failing or missing teeth with fixed teeth on four to six implants. The implants and a fixed temporary set go in on the same day; the final teeth follow once the gums have settled.

A whole arch, in one day

For someone whose teeth in one jaw are loose, broken or already gone, the usual route to implants can mean months: extractions, healing, grafting, implant surgery, more healing, and a removable denture worn throughout. Smile in a Day shortens that to a single surgical day.

The remaining teeth are removed, four to six implants are placed in the same visit, and a fixed set of temporary teeth is attached to them before you go home. Because the teeth are held by all the implants together, they can be fitted straight away, which dentists call immediate loading.

Why angled implants matter

The bone at the back of the jaw is often the first to shrink after teeth are lost, and in the upper jaw the sinus sits close above it. Tilting the back implants lets them reach firmer bone further forward, so in many cases grafting or a sinus lift can be avoided. Whether that works for you is read from your 3D scan, not assumed.

Temporary, then final

The teeth fitted on the day are a strong temporary bridge, designed to protect the implants while they bond with the bone. Over the following months the gums reshape after the extractions. Once they have settled, the final bridge is made to fit them, in stronger materials, and fitted over a few short visits without further surgery. The options for that final bridge are set out on the full-arch implants page.

It may suit you if

  • Most of the teeth in one jaw are loose, broken or failing
  • You wear a loose denture and want teeth that stay fixed
  • You have been told you lack the bone for implants (a 3D scan shows whether angled implants can avoid grafting)
  • You do not want to spend months without teeth while implants heal

Suitability is confirmed at your examination, never from a web page.

If you would rather wait

Failing teeth do not get firmer, and the bone that holds them keeps shrinking, which can narrow the options later. Even so, a well-fitting denture is a reasonable way to wait, and you can keep yours while you decide. We can plan now and treat when you are ready.

Step by step

What happens at each stage, and roughly how long it takes. Your own timings are set out in your written plan.

  1. Step 1: Consultation and 3D scan

An examination, a 3D CBCT scan taken in-house, and a full medical history, including every medicine you take.

If you have diabetes, heart trouble or take blood thinners, we may plan alongside your doctor. It is about doing the day safely, not ruling you out.

  2. Step 2: Planning the implants and your new teeth

The implant positions are planned on the scan. Records of your bite, and photographs of how your teeth used to look, guide the shape of the temporary set.

  3. Step 3: The day itself

    1 day

Under local anaesthesia, any remaining teeth in the arch are removed and four to six implants are placed, the back ones often angled to use the bone you have. A fixed temporary set of teeth is attached the same day.

You go home with fixed teeth. They are a strong temporary set, made to protect the implants while they heal, so food stays soft for the first weeks.

  4. Step 4: Healing

Reviews while you heal3 to 6 months

The implants bond with the bone while the gums settle and reshape. You eat soft food at first, then more normally.

  5. Step 5: Your final teeth

The temporary set is replaced with the final bridge, made from stronger materials, over a few short visits. No more surgery is needed.

What the cost covers

Included

  • The consultation, 3D scan review and written plan
  • Implants and fixed temporary teeth on the day
  • Reviews while you heal
  • The final fixed teeth

Sometimes needed, at extra cost

  • The second arch, if both jaws are treated
  • Bone grafting, where angled implants cannot avoid it
  • A night guard, if you grind your teeth

Anything extra is explained, with its cost, before it is done.

Risks and recovery

Every treatment carries some risk. These are the ones to know about, and what is normal while you heal.

  • Swelling and bruising are normal for the first few days, and settle with rest and the medicines prescribed.
  • An implant can fail to bond with the bone. Smoking and poorly controlled diabetes make this more likely. If it happens, the implant is replaced after healing.
  • The temporary teeth can crack under hard food. Following the soft-food guidance protects them and the implants.
  • Speech takes a few days to adjust to new teeth.
  • Long term, the gums around implants can become inflamed if not cleaned well. Regular reviews and cleaning keep them healthy.

Ask on WhatsApp
Is it really done in one day?

The surgery and a fixed set of temporary teeth, yes. The final teeth follow three to six months later, once the implants have bonded and the gums have settled. You are not without teeth at any point.

What can I eat afterwards?

Soft food for the first weeks while the implants heal, then a gradual return to normal. You get a written guide to what to eat and when.

Am I too old for implants?

There is no upper age limit as such. What matters is your general health and your bone, which the medical history and the 3D scan show.

I was told I do not have enough bone. Can I still have this?

Often, yes. Angling the back implants lets them use the bone that is there, which avoids grafting in many cases. The 3D scan decides it, case by case.

How is this different from implant dentures?

These teeth are fixed and only the dentist removes them. Implant dentures clip onto fewer implants and you take them out to clean. Both are explained at the consultation.

  • Full-arch implants

Full-arch implants replace every tooth in a jaw with a bridge held by four to six implants. This page sets out the choices, how many implants, which materials, fixed or removable, and when the teeth go in.

  • Implant dentures

Implant dentures are removable dentures that click onto two to four implants, so they stay put when you eat and speak. You take them out to clean them and at night.

  • Bone grafting and sinus lift

When the jawbone is too thin or too short to hold an implant, a bone graft builds it up. In the upper back jaw, a sinus lift raises the floor of the sinus to make room for new bone.
